About Jon R. Keeney

Jon Keeney has spent his life solving big problems. He obtained his "can do" attitude growing up around the people who made the Manhattan Project reality and helped end World War II. Jon never forgot the hard work, perseverance, and courage of people in Oak Ridge, Tennessee putting Country ahead of personal safety. Jon has carried the values learned from his community with him throughout his life.

Jon has a long and distinguished career in business management. Upon graduation from the University of Tennessee with a B.S. in Engineering, he joined an international chemical corporation, where his skill in handling people and solving problems earned him various management positions. Jon completed his M.A. degree at the University of Houston, Clear Lake and joined a global consulting firm as a management consultant. Jon then joined an energy corporation, where he continued working to improve the performance and efficiency of locations around the world. He has been involved in negotiations with the governments and corporations in fourteen different nations, bringing together people from highly diverse cultures to achieve results. In an era when partisan politics often seem like the norm, Jon plans to use his extensive negotiating experience to get things done for District 129.

Jon recognizes that science and business are important to our community. With thriving enterprises in this district investing in the local economy and the technology transfer of NASA and its contractors, District 129 has the potential for boundless prosperity. Jon has worked with researchers, engineers, and other scientists around the world, pulling scientific communities together to create innovative solutions to problems. He is eager to use his extensive problem solving experience with the business and scientific communities to realize the full potential of the technology and companies in this district.

Jon's travels have shown him the effects of government interference in business and personal lives. He has witnessed first-hand the economic ruin caused by socialistic governments that destroy free enterprise, stifle innovation, and discourage work through excessive taxes and regulation. Keeney recognizes that the creativity of the American people and the businesses they develop drive our economy and provide jobs; government programs and regulations stifle progress.

Jon has an outstanding record of community service. He has worked with organizations such as United Way, American Red Cross, Mental Health at Brookwood Home, Boy and Girl Scouts, Jaycees, Boys and Girls Harbor, and Stephens Minister. Jon served as a church leader with the Red Cross during the Hurricane Katrina evacuation, where over 350 displaced people were housed, fed, and cared for by the Clear Lake community. Jon is presently serving on the Board of Directors at Interfaith Caring Ministries and at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Jon and his wife Lilian are active members of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church where they serve in many capacities.

Jon and his wife were married in Clear Lake in 1987. They have three grown children and six granddaughters. Their two sons and their families live in district 129, while their daughter and her family reside in St. Augustine, Florida.
